Three plans for after this month

This month is my last at Multi Medika Mahadata. This isn't a post about leaving, though. It's about the three things I'll be working on next.

This month is my last at PT Multi Medika Mahadata. Six months as a fullstack developer with Laravel and Vue, working on software for clinics.

The field taught me one thing I hadn’t expected to matter as much as it does: a system has to follow the way the people inside it already work, rather than asking them to bend around it. There were a few things I had to weigh up, and in the end I didn’t extend the contract.

This post isn’t about that, though. What I’d rather write down is what comes after it. There are three things.

First, finding a new job — a long-term one this time. I’d like to stay somewhere long enough to watch what I build grow, get used, and then change because it’s being used. That last part is the one I rarely reach when everything stops at the end of a contract.

Second, taking a proper look at something I’ve been watching for a while: digital wedding invitations. Nothing is settled, and I’d rather not promise anything yet. But the product and business side has always been what interests me most, as I said when I introduced myself, so it would be a shame not to try now, while I have the room to. The first step isn’t building anything. It’s reading the numbers.

Third, looking after this site. Not on a schedule — when I introduced myself I said I write when there’s something I want to write, and that hasn’t changed. Only one thing has: now there’s something I want to write. I might try another format later, video perhaps, but that can wait. It’s the smallest of the three, and the only one I can start on today.

Thank you to PT Multi Medika Mahadata for having me these six months. It really did go quickly. I wish them every success with their projects.

And one note to myself. Writing the plan is the easy part; the hard part is still doing it when nobody is asking. So do whatever can be done today, however small, and don’t wait for conditions to be perfect first. Here’s hoping I can stay consistent…
